Browser Hijackers
A browser hijacker is a form of malware or spyware that replaces the users' Internet browser home page, error page, or search page with its own. These are most often used to unethically drive traffic and revenue to the selected website.

Morwill Search - hijacks your homepage where it gathers information
CoolWebSearch - One of the first and most annoying hijackers resists removal. There is a special tool to remove it. Click here to get it.

Earthlink - They redirected mis-typed domains to their search page until clients rebelled
Rogue security software - Claims "YOU HAVE SPYWARE IN YOUR PC!" - then you download a 'cure' but in fact it is a scam.

How to Prevent Spyware and Browser Hijackers?
Download and install a spyware removal/blocker like AdAware or Spybot Search and Destroy. They are both free and can save you a world of grief and irritation.

You don't really believe everything you read on the Internet, do you?
Those "SPYWARE DETECTED" and similar messages that appear on some rogue web pages on top of the actual content are ads. Worse yet, some of those ads actually install spyware when you click on them. Don't believe everything you read on the net!
Spyware is a very annoying problem, and if you have not taken appropriate steps it is quite likely that you do need to clean up your system. Be sure to use Windows Update regularly. Download one of the completely free applications for spyware removal:
